Track Rollers vs. Cam Followers

PCI Track Rollers are manufactured with either deep groove ball bearings or tapered roller bearings, are designed for moderate radial loads, and are able to handle thrust loads.

PCI Cam Followers are manufactured with needle bearings that can accept radial loads, but cannot accommodate thrust loading.

Track Roller sizes under 3" are manufactured with deep groove ball bearings. They provide excellent exclusion of contaminates with lubrication retention. Many body profiles are available, such as Plain (shown here), Flanged, V-Grooved, U-Grooved, Channel and I-Beam Rollers. All stud style rollers can be supplied with eccentric shafts to facilitate precision alignment. These rollers are available with all stainless steel components, or with nylon roller bodies.

Most Track Roller sizes 3" and over are manufactured with tapered roller bearings. All body profiles and eccentric options mentioned above are available for these rollers. All Track Rollers can be supplied with steel shields for high temperature applications or if less seal drag is desired. Other options include chrome plated roller bodies, urethane coated roller bodies and crowned roller bodies. (See specific catalog pages for bearing style.)

Cam Followers have excellent radial loading capacity. Yoke styles can be supplied to achieve maximum load rating capacities.

Sealing is provided by moly-filled nylon labyrinth seals that also serve to eliminate metal to metal contact between the needle rollers and the
end clamping components.

Crowned roller profiles compensate for mis-aligned mounting and evenly distribute the load over the needle bearings. Heavy stud styles can be supplied for shock load applications, heavy load or if minimal stud deflection is required.

All Cam Followers are provided with multiple points for relubrication. Eccentric styles are supplied for precision alignment. Special body profiles can be manufactured to meet application requirements.

Cam Follower studs are provided with either a screw driver slot or a hex socket for mounting purposes. Other options include chrome plated roller bodies, black oxided components or urethane coating.
