What are Pneumatic Clutches and Brakes?

PCI provides pneumatic clutches that use clean, compressed air to synchronize two rotating shafts. PCI pneumatic brakes are used to stop a moving component. These units are suited for low-speed accumulation, zone or zero-pressure conveyor systems with occasional starts and stops, and high torque capacities.  Combination Clutch/Brake units are also available.

PCI Pneumatic Clutch, Brake and combination Clutch/Brakes are IDEALLY suited for:
  • Accumulation, Zone or Zero-Pressure conveyor systems
  • High torque capacities from 0 to 6,300 inch pounds
  • Low speed – less than 100 RPM
  • Occasional starts and stops, no more than 5 cycles per minute
PCI Pneumatic Clutch, Brake and combination Clutch/Brakes are NOT suited for:
  • Frequent starts and stops, more than 5 cycles per minute
  • High inertia starts
  • Indexing
  • Tension Control
  • Continuous Slip
